Okay I have my 400GB Maxtor in the PS2 (I only plan to play PS2 games on it), haven't formatted it yet (I assume I should use standard formatting)

I plan to hook it up internally to my comp (I don't have any screws or anything to hold the HDD in place, what do I do?) and write games using winhiip when I have enough games using this compatibility list here:

I have Toxic OS 0.41

My basic problems are:

1. I have no idea how to check what is on my memory cards.
I'm thinking I should switch it back to the usual PS2 interface to check this. But I am not sure how to access the Toxic OS after I switch the interface back to the usual PS2.

2. Does the laser automatically shut off when running games from the HDD or do I need to do something?

3. Is there any way to run PSX games off of the HDD?

4. I need to learn how to install Toxic OS upgrades to the PS2

5. What do the different modes mean or do?

6. Anything I need to know about winhiip?

Some stuff I wanna do is:

1. I want to replace the background with a sweet .jpg since I read you could do that somewhere, but don't know how to.

I DON'T WANT TO DO ANYTHING THAT MIGHT HURT THE SYSTEM, bare bones functionality is what I care most about!

If you guys have any advice or newbie tutorials (patching games to work and also to work online, how to use cheats with the games, anything I should know basically), checking if they are the right size, cheats you can give me or link me to, they would be greatly appreciated.
