Hi I have searched high and low in various forums for the answer but can't find the answer so please forgive me if this is a repeat noob question.
i am new to the Xbox 360 scene and have just purchased a used Xbox 360 which has, as far as i know, an Hitachi 0078 drive which has had the firmware updated to play backups of my games. I do not know what version of firmware or software was used to mod the hitachi drive, but it does play backups of other games i own. i have just purchased Halo3 and have a backup. However when i insert halo 3 it gives me the message that a console update is required before I can play. This is the first game that I own which has asked my to do a console update. Is it safe? Can i update my Xbox 360 with this halo 3 console update? Or will this console update stop my firmware modded Xbox from playing backups (as Sony does with PSP's)? i am not too bothered about xbox live as i am currently without internet at home, but I do not want the update to stop my 360 playing backups. Sorry for long post, i have searched everywhere and can't find an exact answer to this. many thanks in advance. D

The update is safe it will not stop you from playing backups, we have all installed and are a-ok.

Do you think this is the same for a Pal version ?? or is this a NTSC update only ?

Thanks in advance.

Not sure what the update does though i came across a website mentioning something about an update for the controllers for the game Buzz. Don't know if this is that update. It doesn't affect your xbox playing backups anyway so i'm happy.

I have done mine with no issues. A friend done his off an original Fifa 08 and backups still work for both. Go for it !!
