ok about 2 weeks i started to have a problem.

i have 2 dvd players and a portable dvd player.
all my back up played on everything till like 2 weeks ago.
the dvd on the main tv stoped playing my newly made back ups
my old ones still play but the news ones dont. as in the ones i made with in the last two weeks.
movies like "hot fuzz". a old movie called "close call" which is a 03 movie "chic little" and a couple others

but they play in the other 2 dvd players just fine.
i check a few of my old back ups and they still play fine.

any ideas on what changed in this one dvd player why it doesnt want to play the newly made back ups?

i use anydvd and shrink or dvd fab and shrink burn with nero

side note the dvd play that acting up has built in surround sound

i was using maxwell when i noticed it

so last night i bought what i have always use and the same problem still
works on all the other dvd players but that one with the surround sound built in. it says bad disc

if some of the movies wasn't so old i would just think i need to upgrade anydvd or something but like that one movie being a 2003 movie i know the protection hasn't changed.

Your burner is ancient...make sure the firmware is up to date. Might be time for a new drive.

lol well i also burned them using a brand new dell so that not the prob.

and like i said they all play fine on the other dvd players just this one is acting funny now.

if it didnt have the surround sound built in to it i would just bring the bed room dvd player into the main room.

also it should be fine doing the old movies like that 03 one.

i might try reinstalling nero and shrink in-case something messed up in the programs and doing something to the burn

More like three years. New PC and old drive doesn't make a difference, if there isn't a firmware update to recognize the media then you are SOL because the burner won't know what to do with the discs. Old drive + new media = headaches. Also burning at 2X with that drive might be fine, but it would be too slow for a newer drive.

If you are using Nero post a log.

Using two different versions of Nero, these numbers should match. Use the cleantools at the Nero website to uninstall and then reinstall one version only. Keep your serial keys handy for the reinstall.

There actually is a firmware update available for your drive..try 1.0C from here:

There should be another line of text here that identifies your media...should look something like this:

This means that you are asking your burner to do something that it can't do....

Quote:
10:29:24 PM #27 Phase 37 File APIProgress.cpp, Line 282

...but somehow, 24 minutes later, it manages to churn out a successful burn.

I really don't see anything else wrong with the log other than fixing the version issue and updating firmware. As I said before, you'll probably be buying a new drive in the near future. I don't think this is a problem with the rip that has trinkled down to the burn process. Why would you put this old drive in a new Dell is beyond me though.

Oh, I guess I got confused there...seems as if it is a compatibility issue with your standalone then. Different media usually solves that, but you'll have to find the right one. This is why I recommended Verbatim as they have a very high degree of compatibility and don't outsource like other manufacturers like Maxell does, they use several different sources for their discs.

just passing thru and edited the Nero logfile post to contain just the last burn entry, plus removed the serial number; adding to what Loco's said, as the burner's firmware is too old to cater for whatever discs you're using, and because they're +R discs, Nero is unable to 'booktype' those discs (which would have allowed them to work on that one standalone player)....

The problem with 'brands' such as Imation is that you could well have a different manufacturers' discs there to what you've used before even though the packaging looks the same..

..plus don't forget my previous reply re the lack of booktyping in the firmware hence why that standalone player doesn't like the discs..
