Could backup DVD's hurt the drive itself?

Simple question, could running backup cd's or dvd's hurt the 360's drive, compared to legally bought ones.

Don't think so. It doesn't hurt my friends 360, all his games are backups. Also, if I were you, I would change the "pirated" to backups.

To quote some of the senior member of afterdawn, "any time harware is forced to perform a task is was not intentional meant to do often times it will not last as long." That is essentially the gist of it. A game backup is not an actual game, and even if you use the highest quality MKM Verbatims the laser was meant to read factory pressed discs not burned discs. The laser will have to work harder and will drop the lifespan.

Unfortunately the 360 has a terrible track record, so the hardware will probably fail due to a cause unrelated to your backups before the laser goes out.

People have said a backup isnt as high quality as the original and will wear out the laser from having to track the data thread more. My xbox's dvd drive has made a horriable squeling sound for over a year but still reads fine thankfully,
