Hello

I have a modded JP Wii and im in the UK

Some people say that you should not update the firmware via the internet and some say that you should.

I have been told that even though im in the uk the JP Wii will no download the latest "e" firmware but will aoutomatically downlaod the "j" version - is this true? if it is why on earth would you not want to connect to the internet - surely this stops any major chances of bricking!

Can anyone give me a definitave answer as to the pros and cons of both? should i connect or not?

one last question

Im kinda semi brcked at the mo and waiting for big brain academy (japanese name cant remember) as was told this should give me the latest jP update and let me back into the settings menu

I then need to run wiikey 1.2 or 1.3 - does it make a difference which one i use or should i try both?

thanks

Wiikey config disc 1.3 is for a wii with firmware with 3.0 and 1.2 is for a wii with firmware lower than 3.0, but for it to work at 3.0 you need to flash your wiikey to 1.9b so it can the config disc.

As i said before you wanted to see what kind of mod you have and running the config disc can confirm whether or not you have a wiikey which IMO is the most popular.

ok

so if 1.2 doesnt work, try 1.9b and then 1.3

That right?

If none of this works i musnt have a wiikey i take it?

Most probably... How goes the system? as for the language i don't think that there's much you can do about it, fortunately you can just look at other wii systems to see what the option is, it's no biggy really.

im actually struggling with the burning of the wiikey config disc

When i try to burn the image to a dvd (of any type) it says it cant do it.

It will allow me to burn to a cdr - ive had a computer programmer friend look at this and he said the file is designed for burning onto a cd

is this correct?

If you have nero use it, then after clicking on the image file u want to use click options next to your drive and click DVD high compatibility mode. It's pretty easy to use, try using nero startsmart then go click on dvd so it has dvd options, then try find write from image

go the 1.2 disc to work

I burnt my first ISO - now i'll try and work out how to burn a game!! god help me!!

So ive now established i def have a wiikey

if the 1.2 disc works does that mean that my firmware is currently not on 3.0?

If so - a new JP game with correct firmware update will un - semibrick my wii in theory i guess!?

when do i need to use the 1.9b and the 1.3 wiikey config?

Im getting there - oucldnt have done this the other day with out your help!

Thanks

All good, you definately have a lower wii firmware than 3.0J.

Now it's just a matter of finding a Jap game to update the wii then update it via internet if it wasn't the absolute latest, then update your wiikey to 1.9b and grab the 1.3 disc.

Burning a game is the same as burning the wiikey disc if it's an ISO, if it's an actual original game it's a totally different process.

i think ive come a long way in just 2 days - with your help obviously

Ive never torrented before, but am currently downloading a game - i have made sure this is JP one for the time being

Will earn about regionFrii soon, but have downbloaded brickblocker so will try work that out

I actually found the original brain acadamy JP on paly-asia.com for £12 UK so have ordered it to save any hassle of torrents - so fingers crossed it arrives soon and updates my wii back to normal!

Awesome, when it arrives post here how it goes so people have a reference to go to if they ever encounter the same problem.

RegionFrii is used to patch Wii ISOs in an attempt to make them playable on foreign region consoles. This update lets you see more details about the ISO you are attempting to patch, and includes partition injection/extraction functionality, among other things. Mainly to make non-working games, well...working. Compatability liste here:

http://wiki.gbatemp.net/index.php?title=...patibility_List

Wiibrickblocker is a small piece of software that enables you to patch an Iso file before you burn it. A Wii DVD consists of 3 partitions, one of them is the update. The WBB modifies these partitions and replaces one of them without any update. You just have to choose your Iso file, and click Patch, it only takes 30sec... After that you can burn your Iso and the game will launch without an update so you will be able to play your import game. Not: some games need their update to function!

of course - ill make sure i make people aware of the results!!

Im sure there are others in the same situation as me!

THe only thing that is bugging me - not a lot, but slightly is that i just borrowed my neighbours wii sports (original UK Pal). It loads and shows it in the wii menu, but then when i click to load it just goes to a black screen

Ive checked the wiikey config and region override is turned on so im bemused as to why it wont work?

Does it have anything to do with the semi bricking issue?

Yeh, just wait until you resolve your bricking issues, your wii should be fine after it's fixed and updated, if it still happens then probably try using Regionfrii if you have the proper tools to rip the game
