Hello all, and thanks in advance for any light you might be able to shed on my situation. We own a 70011 v12 slim ps2. We have previously used swap magic and a flip top, but just bought a matrix infinity chip (yes a real one not some modbo or other pos fake). Here's where the problem begins.
I got the soldering diagram off the matrix home site, but when I took the ps2 apart with the aid of an electronics friend I have we were kinda lost. The soldering points are quite far apart. Also the chip is small, but there sure isn't any room to spare between the ps2 mobo and the metal shield/mount on the bottom. We put the ps2 back together and all is well...except of course I don't have a modchip installed.
We thought it best to do some research and get some thinner wire in the mean time. I have searched this forum and others, and I've been unable to find a specific thread to answer my questions. Here they are:
* How should we mount the chip to the mobo?
* Should it get afixed even?
* Any pics or links to tuts?
Tonight this is the plan we have if I don't get any better advice first.
* Pre solder the wires to the modchip
* Get out the 2sided sticky tape/hot glue gun and fix chip to the only place it seems the metal shield will allow
* Run long wires all over the bottom of my ps2 mobo, and solder the wires to the ps2 according to the diagram from their homesite
Do we need to flash the chip, or should it just plug 'n play? Also is it important to update the firmware?
Thanks again for taking the time to read my long a$$ post, and for any help you might offer. I am a bit worried about my ps2 getting fubar, so even if you think we are on the right track please say so. Some pics of this procedure would make me feel a whole lot better about this.
