Hello folks of AfterDawn,
I just wanted to share that I found something interesting that u Guyz would find it useful.
I experimented on my ps2 and I discovered that action replay max can play backups with cheats, without using Swap magic, but only for ps2 slim. The requirements for this method are,
1. Action replay max (CD) Original (if you have a mod chip then can use backup CD)
2. A TOC original game (eg, metal gear solids, tekkens, shadow of the colossus, final fantasies etc...)
3. Of course a PS2 slim
4. USB pen drive containing the CDLOADER.ELF (u can find the links in AfterDawn)
5. Backup DVD game
First, u need to block all the three sensors by using tape and tissue mod (don’t worry u won’t wreck ur ps2). Then insert action replay max cd and wait till it loads up. When it loads up select your cheats and press (X) without changing the Disc. Then the action replay max starts again, now u need to insert your USB pen drive and select (MEDIA PLAYER). When it loads up it will automatically recognizes the CDLOADER.ELF, press (PLAY). The CDLOADER.ELF will eventually load up. When the disc stops spinning, take out the ARMAX CD and press (Triangle, u can see the lens goes back), then insert the TOC original game (I mentioned it on the requirements) and press (Triangle) again (u will see the disc start spinning). Then u have to press (X) when message is displayed. Another message will appear saying (USE THE EA METHOD), u will notice the disc will stop spinning. Swap the TOC original game with the backup game, then press (X), it takes a while to load, but it will load up.
Now you should be able to play your backup games with cheats
IF U NEED ANY HELP DO NOT HESITATE, ASK

Does ArMax Evo work with this? And does this exploit NEED a slim line or can the fat one work too?

It doesn't have to be a SLIM PS2, u can also use the method on the fats too by using the slide tools. I don't know mush about AR MAX EVO, try out the AR MAX a backup if u have a modchip, or get a retail one if u dont have a mod chip.
reply if u have any questions

I figured you could use it on the FAT but not many have posted about it. I figured it would work though.
I use AR MAX evo Swap magic edition on the FAT (with a Flip Top)and the Slim and it works fine.

It won't work then. Either see if you can exchange it for the one that does, or sell it to a friend and then buy the one that does.

I don't have a modchip because they cost $40-70 and I don't trust myself with a solder.

I would try burning a new disk and see if that helps, as long as your not having any other issues with your PS2. Could just be the media itself.

i've just tried that and it's the same.. i'm starting to think it is the ps2... just before i read your reply i was trying to play devil may cry, it's an original but it's a US game and i have a pal system... i use swap magic 3.6 and load it and when it gets the the bit where it says this game contains explicit violence and gore and it freezes and it is reading the outer edge of the disc... the same with final fantasy 12 but that does load but it takes ages and its while it is reading the outer edge of the disc... all my original pal games seem to load up properly though i'll go through them all and check and i'll get back to you.. thanks for the help...

all my originals work fine, and they work with action replay because you can swap them directly after, but if i use the swap magic disc it's still the black screen of death.. i should just go back to the fat ps2 as it was much better.. less complications.. the only problem i've had with that is that stupid crash bandicoot to ages to load.. anyway off the subject.. if anyone else has any suggestions thanks...

ok here it goes... all my original pal games work, all my original US games work with swap magic except devil may cry... devil may cry 2, devil may cry 3 and DMC 3 special edition all work perfectly.. all my original pal games work with action replay... the only time any game doesn't work is if i use the swap cd or the swap dvd after the action replay.. dvd loader doesn't work either... and yes i do remember to set reset iop to always...

Ok but at the second time around you don't change the IOP, you just leave it.Is that how you are doing it.
Method posted here in case you need a refresher for Swap Magic DVD.

I have a question but I can't find an answer and starting a new thread seems stupid since this is the same type of thing as in this thread.
Does the ActionReplay MAX Evo work? On the packaging it says it includes media player but did they change something for this one to make it not work?

Which version do you have that is not working.
Tell us more about what PS2 you also have, and what exact procedure did you follow.

If that was directed at me, I think you misunderstood. I don't have ARmax or anything. Yet. I'm only wondering if it WILL work because that is all I can find in stores around here.

Oh ok yes it was at you, sorry.
Yes it works, but you need to make sure it has the media player. And also it seems the version they used to make it work was V3.36, but am sure that version or under will be fine.
Just check the 3rd post down from the top by me, and there is the Masterchu method used for the slim and 2 other methods posted for the FAT PS2. There are many threads posted though on this site about AR Max evo.
