i recently made an ill-fated attempt at flashing my 360. I used textbooks tutorial. I tried to boot into DOS from a flash drive, And to make a long story short, I erased my hard drive, And had to replace it and the motherboard. So my question is, I understand I can't boot into DOS while im an XP user, is their any way i can flash my 360 using Windows XP? I have a samsung drive. Also, I tried accessing command prompt in safe mode while the hard drive was disconnected, And could not even get the windows startup logo. I will not flash my 360 if the HD is connected...My wallet is FUBR. Thanks.

If you erased your hard drive trying to flash a disk drive. My only recommendation is to buy one already flashed and stay away from your poor computer. Its already been through enough

All i did was formatted a usb stick, configured my bios to boot from it, And this is what happened. I've read in several places that xp users cant access DOS like pro can. As far as the motherboard goes, I had it installed as it wasn't detecting the new HD. This was a reccomendation from the tech support people i deal with in my community. Also, I will flash my 360, I just need to find out out if I can access the command prompt with my HD disconnected. I think theirs an adaptor i can buy for my OS that'll solve alot of issues. Also, I did read textbooks tutorial, I followed everything very closely!

well obviously you didnt follow it to closely if you killed your 'HD and MOBO' since this is the first time in about 2 years that i've heard of someone doing this. and flashing with the techniques used now are basically fool proof.

All I would like to know is:
1. Can I flash my 360 using Windows XP?
2. If so, HOW do I access command prompt using a bootable USB stick?
Also, I explained in great detail what i tried to do to the guy who fixed my PC, And he said that if i would have succeeded in doing this flash, I would have rendered my computer completely useless.
Tell me if this would work:
1. Boot from USB
2. Get into safe mode with command prompt
3. do the flash
4. bomb all your asses on XBL!

No not in safe mode. I disconnected all my drives, Then booted from USB into command prompt. The trouble i was having was that I was booting from USB with all drives connected. I was always getting the desktop. I thought that when the actual flashing is done, Thats the time to disconnect the HD and such, But as soon as i did this, Booted from USB, I entered the promiseland! The thing i was not getting, And yes it may seem slow on my part, Was that the PC will boot from the USB stick...And nothing else, Hence the term BOOTABLE. But for me, Everything needed to be cut-off for this to work. So obvious. Everybody scream NOOB!!!

Great job, on explaining "How" to boot from the USB. You flash the drive with a version of Kreon?
