I did the Mod very carefully, the 6 points seem to be solder ok. Put it back together, orginal disk works but 3 copied disks all say "can not read disk" copies were done correctly. My question> How do you trouble shoot this ? Is it a bad mod chip,a bad install, or just a bad copy of disks (3 different ones, two different games, 2 different cmps on the copy. Where do I start ?
Thank you..Frustrated

Try different media. Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden.

At this point, I would check over the install. Make sure there are no bridged contact points. Can you take an up close pic of the install?

I'm having the same problem. The chip install looks good, but how exactly do you tell? The 4 tiny ones you can see fairly clearly and they look good with no bridged connections. And the big pad on the right side i can see that it looks good, but its the left one that leaves me to question. So my question is if I wanted to redo that solder point, how do i remove the solder thats in that hole? This is the second install I've done and the first one went quickly and flawlessly, this one is kicking my ass. The factory discs work but I can't get the setup disc to read.

SHIT!! I think that I just figured out my problem, I just need to confirm it. I remember reading a while back that the newer Wii's coming out were going to have 3 pins missing from the eprom just below where the chip sits. Was this ever confirmed? If those 3 legs are missing their solder points to the board does that mean the chip can't work? Is there any way around this?

I suggest you take a photo and post it so we all can have a look what's the problem.

Ok here are a couple pictures that I took from my cell phone. You can see the wiikey is installed and if you look just south of the wiikey, the next chip that is soldered to the board has 3 legs missing. They are not soldered to the board as all the other legs are on the chip. I remember reading about and see a picture of this in an old thread stating that it was the new wii's made so that a wiikey chip could not be installed. So is this really the story? Also, what is a D2C wii that they created this new D2Ckey for?

Yep, thats your problem. D2A, D2B, and D2C are the number that are on that chip. If yours says d2b, you have options. If it is D2C, you need to toss your Wiikey and look for a D2cKey. Ir requires a hefty 30 point solder job.

You could also wait awhile, and see if an easier alternative arises (i'm better there will be).

Good luck

MIne does say D2B on the chip. So you say I have options?? Those options are exactly what I'm trying to find out. Can anyone state the options and provide some sort of tutorial or a link to something that will show me what needs to be done and how.

I'm not 100% on that one. I think there are alternative spots to solder. Try doing a search, or check out the Wii Mod Chip discussion thread.

Patrick some dcb's are the same as dca's in that no legs are cut, some have legs cut (i got lucky and had a no leg cut so it was just like the original chip...yours looks like the original...does your board look just like the one on wiikey.cn's install page? or does it look different? Mine looked exactly the same so I got lucky but there is a site out there for it, and i just found it for ya

http://www.wiikeyguide.com/wiikey-install-guide.html

My board looks exactly like the picture from the left download one it does not have the point missing or legs cut so i was able to install it like wiikey's site said to but the site is informative on d2b boards
http://forums.nintendo-scene.com/index.p...msg2440#msg2440
thats a link from the serial range site and is a little more specific on serial number ranges
And actually from their serial checker my serial falls into the 'pin cut' range but it actually wasn't so like it says its not 100% I can't remember my serial but ill get it tonight if i remember and post it on here for you

Hello everyone. I'd first like to thank you all for saving me the trouble of ripping my own hair out again. I have been trying to get this wiikey to work for days, and just now before I attempted to remove and resolder it for the 4th time, I figured I would come check some forums for people with my same problem.

After reading posts about the changes inside the wii, I went and opened mine up to find the 3 posts missing as you can see from my picture below. If I had been half observant I might have noticed that the leads I was soldering to went to absolutely nowhere, but I guess I assumed that wiikey knew what they were selling.

While at least I know why it's not working now, I am disappointed that the wiikey is still being advertised as "Supports all currently available console/drive versions" when it won't work out of the box with the D2B's such as mine without modifications to the chip, and apparently won't work at all with the D2C.

My quick questions for anyone who has attempted or has experience with modifying the chips as in my situation:

How hard is the grinding/reconnecting the leads under the chip? While I am not a novice to soldering by any means, I am also not a pro and am not sure if it is worth the attempt.

Thanks for your help.

as i saw your chipset pictured , you not realy have to do grinding on your chipset , you can just use a little pices of wire connect from that cut pin on the chipset to the board pad , one of each pin then you on set . if you can solder good take your time do one by one , stil better then you mesh your chipset with grinding on that chip and can not controll your hands your wii is GAME OVER BABY ! HI..HI..SO GOOD LUCK.

I am having a problem with a LU5293xxxx series. It has a d2c chip without the legs cut and the wiikey is soldered perfectly fine. I have ohm checked it from modchip IC legs to drive IC legs and they all are under .8 on 200. The wii still plays original discs but no homebrew or backups. just says bad disc. I have looked around alot and found no answers to this issue. Not a whole lot about the d2c out there. This is not my first wii mod and certainly not my first solder job.
I can put pics up if I have to or email them directly if someone can help.

The Wiikey doesn't work with the D2C chipset at all, ever.

You need one of the new chip called the D2Ckey. Then you've got the fun of a 30 wire minute install.

there are a number of posts on here about d2c chip NOT being compatable with the wiikey, a quick search would have answered your question really quickly
