I got th red ring of death. Do I need to reflash my drive to the original FW before sending in back to M$?

Do you think they check the DVD drive firmware for a red ring of death symptom? When they receive my 360, they will see that the seal was removed and my warrenty in void. They will charge me for the repair. What else can they do to me?
