I have been checking out various forums and I am trying to get my hands around what I can and can't do with my PSP. In stock form it does pretty much most of what I want.

I recently purchased D&D Tatics and prior to playing it upgraded the firmware to 3.30. Which got me to thinking about homebrew again. However, I don't see any documentation that calls out 3.30 directly.

That being said, I would like to run some emulators and some iso files.
I am trying to reduce the number of UMDs I have to carry when traveling.

What is the safest and most idiot-proof method for this given my starting point?

Thanks.

well the most idiot-proof method is only for installing custom

firmwares with easy installers. Thats easy, i can just give you a link

to that, you run it, and the files get transfered to your memory stick

when its connected, you run it on game menu, and your at 3.52m33

[which you want to be at].The problem is, you have to be at f.w. 1.5

to get to any kind of custom firmware. The only ways you can do this

is to use the 'pandoras battery' method or to upgrade to 3.50 and get

a hold of a game called 'lumines - puzzle fusion' to downgrade to 1.5.

If you don't know anyone with another psp that has or can get custom

firmware on it, then you can nOt make the magic battery and memory

stick to downgrade. You could go on ebay and people will do it for you

for a price as low as 10 dollars. If not, the 'lumines' exploit is

your only hope. The service is the cheapest if worst comes to worst

but the game, you can keep for a lifetime as a special game or sell on

eBay for some extra $.

If I do run the lumines downgrader do I need still run pandora?
Also, when I want to go back and play D&D Tatics will it force me to update my firmware back to 3.30?

If I have a spare battery and memory stick can that be used to install custom firmware?

Once you run the lumines downgrade can you then install the custom firmware?

Things are getting a little clearer for me. Thanks for your time.

I am going to continue my search for the lumines exploit and try to figure out what custom firmware will work for my needs.

If u are able to run the lumines exploit to downgrade your PSP from 3.50 (upgrade to 3.50 first from 3.30) then do so, although this is the more expensive option since u will have to buy a copy of lumines (the original edition) which is rather rare now adays, and sold for high prices.

The Pandora's battery (made through changing the battery and having certain files on the MS) is used to downgrade ANY PSP FW to 1.5, so if u have already used the lumines exploit, u will not need to use the pandora's battery, it is only for DOWNGRADE AND UNBRICKING. This is the recommended option; quick, easy and EXTREMELY versatile. If u have a spare MS and battery (it's best to use OFFICIAL GENUINE SONY batteries), then take a shot @ it! U lose a battery, but it can be converted back to it's original state through the same software which turns the battery into a pandora's battery. As for the MS, it can be formatted using the PSP or any other device back to it's original state. So if u think about it, u don't lose anything!!

Excellent. I believe that I have a plan.

I have located a copy of lumines.

Next, I will downgrade my PSP to 1.50

Using my real Sony battery and MS I will make a back-up using pandora

Now that I have 1.50 on my PSP I can install 3.71 M33-2, thus allowing me to run everything I want and more.

Now it is off to the how-to section for some more reading.

Thanks to the forum.

you can make the pandora battery and magic memory stick for future use just incase you 'fully brick' your psp. It's also nice to have if you do indeed have a spare battery and 512mb memory stick. A 32mb wont work i believe. You do nOt need both though. It's either one or the other. Some places haven't raised the price yet though. If you manage to get a copy of the game. We can provide a link to an easy tutorial for you to downgrade using the game. It's not that complicated. You got help too. So come back when you have either one.

No, a 32MB MS will not work. To create a magic memory stick, you NEED a MS PRO DUO at LEAST 256MB in capacity (no bigger than 2GB, 4GB+ will not work!).

Yeah, thats what i was thinking. Like i said though, to get to version 1.5, you only need one or the other. The lumines game which is used to downgrade when certain files are in your memory stick, or the pandoras battery method where when you stick the mem.stick and batt. in the psp, it will automatically have a screen for you to follow instructions.
