You could also use your Gameshark to load an exploit cd to install to your memory card. You must have an original PS1 disk to do this.
Then you would be able to always boot your PS1 disk and run things like Ulaunch.elf and be able to load cogswap or cdloader to boot games.
PS2 Exploit Utility 5.1
The instructions are included.

You do have an original Gameshark disk, don't you. I assumed you did by your question. The methods posted above are for an original disk only.
It should say on it, or load it up and see. It should then tell you.

I didn't get the Game shark yet, but I researched all the methods this one seemed safest and cheapest way to play backups, since I don't trust myself as a 12 yr old the use a solder... Just to make sure Is there any way to tell the version by looking at the box, or can you give me a box shot for the 1.0 versions?

Are you only 12? I find that hard to believe, lol.
Anyway what version of PS2 do you have?
I have never purchased Gameshark so not sure, but I would imagine the Version Number would be on the box.

Ok well thats cool, and yes you seem pretty smart... not too get off topic but remember to always use that skill in the proper manner.
Anyway you would be better off to get a fliptop for your PS2 and use Action Max Replay to play backups. But there are a few options and don't cost a whole lot.

Yea, I have the Chubby Ps2, the gameshark method seems easier and cheaper, for the ARMax method I need the ActionReplay AND a Flip top, plus flip tops aren't sold in stores, and I don't like buying stuff online. But what is the difference between the ArMAX method and the Gameshark one?

The Gameshark method might be the way for you to go then.
I don't know much about the Action Replay Evo Retail edition. I only use the backup one with Swap Magic.
You could always post in that that thread if you like or read a bit more. Do a search and see if you come up with anything.
Good luck with it all.

Jesus God, do the newest Gamesharks that they sell at stores currently not work for the boot trick?

Everytime i go to switch, the tray opens up automatically, not giving me time to do the knife swap thing. and if i try to switch the disc before it tells me, it locks up.

someone just please tell me if im wasting my time.

(oh yeah, not sure what version it is either, i swear, it doesnt say on the disc or program anywhere, but like i said, its the newest one, once disc, no memory card thing)

It may be the gameshark is also to new. One thing to note on using Gameshark, I have never even tried this only posting info I have found, and from what I understand it is a CD is it not, so it may only boot PS2 CD backups, meaning you may have to also use Cogswap or Cdloader to boot DVD backups.
Do a search on those terms or searh playing backups with Gameshark.

I would guess you hold it, I am not really sure about those instructions as I have never tried them. I only found them.

I also found this for CD backups.
First things first, you must remove the front of your game drive on your PS2(not a big deal, it can snap on and off).
Now insert your gameshark 2 cd(make sure the gameshark memory
card is in one of the 2 slots, doesn?t matter which one.)
In the gameshark options, choose ?start game?, then ?without?. Your screen should read ?Please insert game disk then press X to continue.?
Now this part can be trickey for beginners, so I will provide pictures
-the main purpose of this starting method is to open up the PS2 and
swap the gameshark disk with your burned game without the PS2
knowing you did it. DO NOT press the eject button on the PS2!!!
-with the PS2 cd tray cover removed, you will be able to look in and see a while tab inside the PS2. With a credit card (or something like it) gently slide the white tab all the way over to the right, if you did it correctly, this should allow you to manually pull open the PS2 cd tray.
5) Next, take the gameshark disk out of the PS2 and put in your burned
game.
Gently push the PS2 cd tray fully back into the PS2 (Don?t press the
eject button).
Now you need to slide that white tab all the way back to the left (its
origional position). To do this you get a strong papper clip(needs to be a strong one) stick it into the PS2 on the right side of the white tab and push the tab back to the left.
If you pushed the tab all the way back to the left and did every thing
else right, you are ready to play your game. Just press X on your PS2 controler and watch as your burned game loads. ( It may load slower than an original game, depending on the cd-r you are using, I use Verbatim cd-r?s and have no problems.)

If that method works, then use cdloader to play backup DVD, get it from sksapps.com under swap magic tools, burn it to CD.

All I can really tell you is that gameshark works with playing backups of PS1 games for sure on certain versions of PS2's, so how they are doing it for PS2 backups I don't know unless it is only the older Versions of Gameshark, then loading the cdloader like I suggested. But yes if someone else has been successful for sure post it.

I like it, but it has to media player, I checked on the Gamestop website, it said it had it, but when I bought it today, it didn't... And whenever i go the the Memory Manager thing the screen is flickering and phasing, I can still do the stuff but its kinds hard and annoying...
