I've just installed a Duo 3 Ultra mod chip on my PS2 (V9), and I've tried out two burned CR-R disks with PSX games on them. Trouble is they don't work!It shows the usuall red image that says that you have to put a PS2 disk in, and some times it tries to load it after I press reset but all I get is a black screen (without even the usual PS2 startup with a jingle)for an indefinit amount of time, I can hear it trying to read it but to no avail, cause no image is displayed on the screen.
I've made sure that all the wires were connected and double checked it all with a multimeter and it's all ok, but wire "A" has a voltage higher then +3.3V, can that be the problem? If so how can I fix it?
Is there some way to enable this chip that I don't know about? Like are there some buttons I have to push (and hold)in order to get it to work?
I also can put it in the disabled mode though I don't know whether it's an indicator that the chip itself works.
Upon further inspection the black screen I've mentioned happens while I hold the select button (even with real PS2 disks)down while I reset/restart the console, and two of the three CDs that I've burned go directly to the PS2 menu and they say "disk error" in the browser section. The other one doesn't go to the menu but it still displays that red screen, I still have no idea whatsoever what to do to activate this chip.
I did use a thicker wire for the ground and the wires are 20cm long, are they too long? How long were your wires? Also what kind of wires did you use? I used regular wires, does this mod chip need expensive wires? Also I've glued the chip to the modem tray (that place where you would usually put in the internet conection for online games) since I don't have this thing and I don't plane to have it I thought that this place would be perfect for the mod chip, was this the wrong place to glue it? Where did you glue yours?
Can anyone help me to determin what length the wires need to be? I've tried burning several CDs and it all failed, and it could be because of the wire length, the wire length that I have now is 20cm, please can anyone tell me if it needs to be shorter?
I have a new problem, now my PS2 won't read a PSX game at all! I bought Chrono Cross and it can't read it just like it can't read the burnt CDs! Can it be that I need to recalibrate my lens?
It might actually be the laser, since I have read in other places that some poeple have had to adjust the CD pot almost 180 degrees in order to get a modded PS2 to play PSX games.
If you look around on the internet for tutorials on how to adjust the CD/DVD pots on you're PS2 laser, that might solve you're problem. There are other methods to get the PS2 to read games beter, but it requires that you adjust the white plastic gear inside you're PS2 CD/DVD drive.
I have had no success using that method, since I think it works best on machines that have one white plastic gear, you're PS2 model has two white plastic gears I belive. But if you do attempt to adjust the CD/DVD pots on you're laser, make sure you mark their original postition, and do not turn the pot more than two degrees at a time if you do you will fry the laser and it won't be able to read CD or DVD games at all.
