It will not work on a computer. It must be connected to an Xbox 360 in order for it to work. There is a legal hack to make it work on a computer though. I don't advise you to do it though because it may screw things up. The cost of the drive is $180.
Here is a link to the legal hack:

Once again, I wouldn't advise you to do this though.

Huh? It works fine on a computer as an external drive. There isn't a "hack", all that is required is you load the drivers for it to work as you would for any usb device(mine did it automatically). Playback of HD dvd's on this drive hooked up to your computer is going to require a pretty stout HDCP compliant video card and playback software like Power dvd ultra.

I had the same problem whenever i first tried to play it because i was trying to play the EVO files. Go to the ADV_OBJ folder and click the XPL file, and it should play.

I'm using PowerDVD ultra 7.3 and it works great. It will play the disc directly from the drive or a ripped folder or created iso from the hard drive.

Cyberlink has a widget at their site that'll analyze your system for HD suitability. You can get past the HDCP protection with AnyDVDHD but you need a good video card that'll handle the workload for you. nvidia 8600 and ati 2600 are the best in the affordable range. Below the 6 series level you might run into some problems.
