They really do leave alot of specifics out. Guess its not so bad if you are a pro but for a newb like me it can be frustrating.
First problem I had was following their pogo pin guide. It did not clearly define where d0 was. They just show control points and those are not very precise for landing directly on d0.
Well I finally got it on d0 but it never would boot to any bios I had installed. I was reading through tutorials when a friend dropped by. He had done several in the past and what he told me was that d0 needed cleaned (made sense as I had read same thing from several other places).
So he continues to get a artists razor (Sharp Point) and softly moves the razor around the inside of d0. I thought finally its going to work.
Well this time when it boots it goes through a different sequence. It boots, stops, boots, stops, then stays on but with orange and green lights blinking. I had read somewhere that this could be caused by the bios not working.
I remove chip and then try to boot the xbox without chip, as a saftey precaution.... Same thing. Now I am a bit worried. My friend said he is not sure what happened as he has done this before with no problems. Well he left and my Xbox is dead. Or so I thought.
I looked at d0 and it looks like he cleaned it just a little to much so it is not getting contact. I decide to test this theory.
I take a wire (One of the wires that came with the chip to do a solder/wire install and hold it in d0. I then power up the Xbox. It boots up fine. Woo Hoo its not dead.
So I have decided to go the solder route. Going to pick up a solder gun and solder tommrrow. Never done it but at this point its really my only choice to save the xbox.
Now that I have shown how long in the tooth I can be, back to the point :).
I look at the solder/wire route tutorial at Xbit and it does explain everything well. Except where do I put the chip now? It does not seem like it would go in the same place that would of been where the pogo pins are, and honestly not sure where else is a safe place to put it.
Any suggestions?
