I'm not quite sure what I'm doing wrong here, but I've had this happen (apparently at random) on several different movies. I've had the problem on 2 different systems with 2 different types of media.

Using DVD Shrink I compressed "300" and removed the extras. I set the output as an ISO on the C:\ drive. Then used Roxio to burn the ISO to a blank DVD. The DVD seems to play fine until about the last 3 or 4 scenes. At that point the playback just starts to skip as if the DVD were scratched (which it's not).

The Media is Memorex 16x DVD+R (printable media, btw)
Yes, I did record at 16x

I also had the same problem with "Gladiator." Did the same process with DVD Shrink, only this time on a different system which allowed me to output to nero. Also burned at 16x, i'm sure. Don't know about the media though, that was a little while ago.

Question now is, what's the problem? Crap media? Burn speed too fast? Or am I doing something wrong with DVD Shrink perhaps? Any insight would be much appreciated.

Go to EDIT, and then PREFERENCES.

Under "Target DVD Size" use the drop down box to select "custom" and change it to 4150 MB.

A lot of DVD's are bad near the edge so this makes the software think the DVD is smaller than it actually is so it never writes to the edge. I haven't had a problem since doing this.

hey docgreen i see u used memorex media @ 16x, memorex is no good media cause i tryed it and used it and learn it was 3rd class media not so good, some really good 1st class media u can try is Verbatim or Sony, and burn @ 8x , using this media will make your movies stop skiping in the last chapters like u mentioned, well hope this helps.

Yeah, I did see in another post about reducing the target DVD size. I tried reducing down to 4200 and burning at 8x, but still had the problem... though it didn't start skipping until slightly later in the movie.

I'm burning another copy of the 4200 size at 2.4x to see if that is any better. I just hate to reduce the dvd size more than I already have. Haven't noticed any reduction in quality yet (though with my equip I could prob reduce a hell of a lot more and not notice the quality loss! LOL).

This version just finished. Time to test it out and see if i've got another coaster to add to the growing collection.

Yeah that one's a coaster. Sure would be nice if I had any idea how much of the end of the disc is unusable. Hey here's something funny I noticed. When I go to burn the disc, insert the blank media and at the bottom where it "estimates" the ammount of free space on the disc it gives me some BS ammount like 18MB or 243MB. Interesting, eh?

I can definately agree that this brand of media (Memorex 4.7GB 16x printable) is complete junk. Hell, maybe since it's printable I can make myself a nice pretty set of coasters out of them all.

My only saving grace is that I bought them from Walmart, and those idiots will let you return anything. You could return a half-eaten box of cookies and they wouldn't give it a second thought. I would like to find a way to make them work somehow just incase I do get stuck with them. Last version was at 4200..... guess I'll take it down a few more to 3800 *stabs self in eye*

What brand burner do you have and is your firmware up to date for it,and have you tried cleaning the burner? Also burning to slow will be a killer just as burning too fast, generally depending on Media 8x or 12x is the speed range for burning 16x and single layers I have set for a target of 4300 used to be 4360 till one brand required a drop down to 4300. Do you have both Roxio and Nero on the same system since the 2 of them are known to have conflict with each other? Chris

You know, i couldn't tell you the brand of the burner i've been using. It's in my dad's dell. The burner on mine seems to be jacked up (prob needs cleaned). That puter only has roxio installed. I'll give it another shot at 8x with the reduced size again and see what that does for me. Thx for the help

It's not the media. As bad as memorex media are, they will usually burn fine just not at 16X. If these are fairly new blanks then I agree your firmware may be out of date and the burners have no good idea how to burn it. Also I have both Roxio and Nero installed and have NEVER had a conflict-over 3 yrs now same putter. Nero's InCD is not installed tho.

Can you do another movie to check if it's the original disc or maybe the program. Did you try a reboot?

But, you see... I've also tried to burn at 12x, 8x, and 4x with the same results.

Have you tried to burn a different movie-say at 8X- with the in ? media? Have you checked your firmware on the burners? If you have dvd decrypter, you can check firmware; and it will take you to an up-date site. Maybe some one else will respond cause I'll be on vacation for 10 days. Good luck, don't give up. Have you tried a different brand of media?

have you tried to play the burnt discs in more than one player? Maybe the problem isn't with the burn?
