Title. Just curious if similar work coterminous to the PSP's OE-As or M33s is in progress.
I haven't bought a PS3 yet, but I'm considering it. Yes, or no? And please link me if so

There are plenty of ISO's to be downloaded currently, but no way of actually playing one.

They ARENT FREE first of all, it's stealing. And of course lots of hackers are trying to crack it, its common sense if not common knowledge. I hope they never make an iso loader for it. But hey I love homebrew just not the piracy crap with it.

Much agreed. I don't want piracy to destroy the playstation. I have the original copies for most of my ps2 backups. I'm not going to lie I do have bootleg backups, but I didn't obtain these until after I bought my ps3. I'm not worried about an iso loader, but to see emulators that run off of the xmb would be nice. Lets say that I go under the game tab and would be able to boot snes games.

Or they could just put a lot of these old school games for download in the PS store. even if its at the low 2.99 or $5.99 cost that I see most classic games. I seriously doubt they will be free, but it would be somethign if they were.
I sure hate to say it but I got jealous when I seen all the games that are in the Wii's online store. I dont even like the Wii cuz it seems to gear towards children but it made me want to get one jsut by seeing all the games. Cant remember them all, but Double Dragon was one game that stood out to me. There was almost 50 games available for download. I could be exagerating but its a lot.

dude, did u just say piracy will destroy the ps3? Hmm... think about it. If someone managed to mod the ps3 then what will people want to do? Use those mods to play free games. This will increase the sales of the PS3. Why do you think the PS2 is still selling high on the market? its because its easy to pirate with it. However, the only downside is companys may not want to make games for sony. Still i don't think enough people will pirate (since majority of people are honest buyers) to make gaming companys hate sony but it will be enough to skyrocket the ps3 sales.

Ahhh, ya... you should think about it. Sony sells the PS3 at a loss and make their profit on accessories and games. So the more PS3's they sell to users who don't buy games, the more Sony loses.

Yeah, I've been wondering this too...
The PS3 is really collecting dust. It's a nice system, don't get my wrong, but I'd rather buy my new fat PS2 (which I actually did buy, because my old one broke) for 60 dollars rather than pay for 60 dollars for a game. I mean, even some homebrew would be nice. I can still at least do some of that with my PS2. However, until things change or a really kickass game comes out, I'm not picking up my sixaxis anytime soon.

Open your eyes half of them are alreddy bailing or going multiplatform as it is if the ps3 gets hacked in combination with the alreddy skittish Dev's they're just gonna walk out the door cause 360 games are cheaper to make and faster to develop.

I have a dark scenario in my mind for some time now... What if... PS3 doesn't get hacked and in consequence people dont buy it massivly. The sales stay low for the next year. The developers will walk away, and there will be no games, because nobody develops great games for small market.

I dont think the PS3 market will go down the flush, I have seen a LOT of games comming out, from which I am planning to buy A LOT! Need for Speed PRO STREET, Time Crisis, the gun looks cool, etc etc etc, I am planning on getting that so believe even if they dont hack it there is a lot of things I will take in consideration before selling my PS3, besides the fact that I got like 50 PS2 games original, which I will like to backup and play on my PS3 without the fact of damaging it, but well we have to wait.
PSP (+[__]%): 2.80 < 1.50 > 3.40OE-A > 3.71M33-4 > 3.80m33-5 > 3.90m33-3 > 4.01m33-2 + 8gb MSPD
PS3 HD 60GB: 1.33 > 1.90 > 2.01 > 2.17 - NO OS
Nintendo DS [+[__]%]: EZ Flash 5 Plus + 1GB MicroSD + EZFlash 3in1
Nintendo Wii: 3.2U + 1GB SD Card + WiiKey 1.9s

PS3 still has to make its market before it can go down the flush. 5 million consoles sold are no market for expensive games (let alone exclusives).
Yes there are games comming in near future, but what will happen in 1-2 years if PS3 doesn't sell enough consoles? The devs will go away.
And there wont be any new good games.
Get my point?
Its not you who will buy a PS3 as you already have it. I am talking about folks that don't buy a console that does not play backups. And thats a majority of gamers where I live.
And if they don't lure in those gamers I am afraid that the sales are not going to rocket skyhigh on their own just waiting.

Why would devs walk away? If the PS3 doesn't get hacked that means devs will get more sales as they won't lose them to being copied. It means that their property is on the safest system and that means more profits for them since people have to buy them to play them.

Yes.
Rockstar and EA are currently making free games for the PS3.
Should be available for download on the PS network.
Fight Night Round 4
Grand Theft Auto
Are just two of the titles they have in mind for this free service.

because downloading SNES ROMs isn't stealing, just loading bootleg PS3 ISOs.

If I need to I will pull my Snes out of the closet and show you the twenty something originals I have for it. The Snes has died and you're telling me that I can't play those games anymore. Lets say for two minutes that I had roms that I shouldn't have, the world is going to come to an end because I pirated a game that has been out for 15 years or so and can probably be found at a yardsale for 50 cents. I have owned every Nintendo until the release of the gamecube. I own a lot of retro games. You want to load ps3 isos then you my friend want a dead console. At this point in time with the struggling sales and the lack of third party development we do not need an iso loader.

In my opinin if an ISO loaser becomes available today, PS3 will outsell Wii and xbox before spring 2008 (maybe even for christmas).
I am speaking from my perspective of a Slovenian guy. You must understand that Slovenia is rather poor in confrontation with USA or UK, lower wage, higher price of electronics (a PS 40 GB is 400?, when in US is 400$) so we just cant afford to buy all original games.
I have a lot of friends who are waiting for a back up option to become available and when it would become, they will all jump on the Ps3 wagon right away.
Look to what happeed to PSP. It sales were slow, one day sony realeses firmware thet supports homebrew, and it became a bestseller overnight.

Travar im from Argentine which right now is the crap. You Paid like 50 euros for a game? well i have to pay 130 us dollars for a game and do that per 3 to see how much it cost .
Im not rich , i just save money and i bought an original game every 2 or 3 weeks. Unlike most pirats i dont get 1000000 games and i play 3 and throw the other bootlegs that they dont like to the trash , i just get "Must Have" and those games that i know i love.
I hate piracy with all my soul , piracy killed Dreamcast and make game maker to stop Developing.
I know that there is ppl that cant afford original games but why did you got the console if you cant afford the games? Is like getting a Ferrari but you cant afford fuel. You know Travar for some odd reasson in my country the most expensive Console is the Nintendo Wii , and the games are even more expensive that the ones for PS3 or 360 , i knew i couldnt afford the Wii games, so what i did? I didnt bought the console.
Im Sry if i sound mean , but i have seen alot of good things , shut down or just went offline thanks to pirats.
Btw the sales of the PSP went up not because M33custom firmware , but because of the Developers that bring us games like Silent Hill Origins , Killzone , Metal Gear Portable Ops , Syphon Filter series , Final Fantasy among other games.
Is Amazing how ppl think that bootlegs copies help Sony/Nintengo/Microsoft.

I do agree that piracy is bad for games companies but so are preowned games as the company looses out on a sale and the shop selling them makes the profit

I live in El Salvador, each original game here costs $90-100 bucks, just like in Argentina... por la gran... anyways, the PS3 here came out at a value price of $1100 price the one of 60GB, so imagine, anyways, the way I play my games and get them is pretty much simple, I either buy them from amazon.com at less than $20 preowned and in good shape, then go to the FLEA market and change it for a good game just for $10 extra bucks, so make the numbers, this is the way I work, if they dont have the game, then I just go to any game rent and rent it for the weekend to test it, if I like it then I try to get my hands on, I only hvae 3 original games for PS3, but like 30 for PS2... as well I got my Wii, which costed $420 here and 3 original games, + like 20 GC games, it has been a long journey!
