Can you burn movies longer than 2 hours on dvd+r?

just out of curiosity. notice that movie files are all generally 4.37gb. just wanted to know if it's possible to burn movies that are 137 minutes long on a dvd+r.

The length of the move doesn't have as much to do with it as the file size. If you try and put two 4+ gig files onto a SL disc chances are the result will be so pixellated it won't be worth watching.

in other words its possible as long as the file doesn't exceed 4.37 gb?

Length of the movie (time) times bitrate will give you file size.
You can put any length of the movie (2,6,8 hours) on DVD5, but bitrate will be low, so the picture quality will be lousy.
Do some experimenting with bitrate calculator to see what happen.

On reasonable quality for DVD5 bitrate should not go bellow 4500kbs.
Higher=better.

janellemn- depending on how you want to do it and the quality or lack thereof that is acceptable to you You could record your DVD on a DVDR- Stand alone/set-top dvd recorder of several hours of programing ect... and then Copy it on your computer Though the longer the recording time the lower the quality of the picture on most dvd recorders ! But if you have both A computer with a dvd burner & a DVD recorder it might be worth experimenting with ? Ciao!!!!
