DVDR980 Not reading disks. Crappy player is. Why?

I recorded, a while ago, two films onto a Infiniti DVD+R disk. I have since upgraded the firmware (not that this should make a difference) and am running FF12t.

Why is it that when I put the disk in all I get is the message "No Disk" but when I put the disk in a crappy old £40 player I can watch the film?

It has not only happened to me on my old Infiniti disks. This has also happened using Arita disks.

Please help me.

Some disks work in some player but not others. Also, the compatability will depend on what program you are burning with. When I first started I could play the DVD's on my old Toshiba but not the brand new Panasonic. With the old DVD Xpress I could play on half the DVD player I had, now with the new version I can play on all of them.
Just make sure you use quality disks and updated software.
