So I am nearly sold on getting a PS3 since the price drop, one thing I would like to know is will it be able to play my large dvd collection which might ahem be copied on a range of blank dvd-r's.

So long as they are exact rips of DVD's they will work fine. Also burned MP4's will work to. However anything coded with Divx will not work.

(that is until you get Lunix on the PS3, then you can play Divx also)

They have been ripped with dvdshrink and some have had compression due to their length. They play fine on my existing player so they should plus dvd-r is listed as a compatible media.

Well then they should work fine (as long as like I said, they are NOT coded with Divx)

It plays all versions of DVD + & -
