HDL Sometimes Freezes

Does anyone have a clue why HDL freezes at the splash screen when I put certain games on the HDD? It happens to me quite frequently. I'll have HDL working and then I go to put a game (that is compatible w/ HDL) on it and it will freeze at the splash screen. Usually I take the game off and it works, but other times I need to reformat the HDD. And other times HDL will be working just fine and the next time I boot it up it will freeze w/ out me adding anything to the HDD. Anyone got any answers? Thanks
