So I ordered the 1st party Sony PSP Stamina Battery (that is supposed to last 20% longer than the regular battery) from Hong Kong (it still says on it Sony PSP Battery).
I gave it a full charge and turned on my PSP. The battery said 100% charge and it would last 5 hours, 30 minutes.
I was playing PSP games off of my memory stick for only 1 hour, 30 minutes before the battery completely died on me.
Any thoughts as to why this happened?
EDIT
It seems I may have gotten a pirate version of this battery after looking at an Amazon Review (but my box still had the Sony logos and everything):
"The Sony battery I bought at Target is great, giving about 5+ hours of steady gaming. However, the two I bought from Amazon from a 3rd party seller are junk. They can be identified by "Made in Japan" instead of China for the legit and Japanese writing instead of English.
The problems with the pirate versions of this battery are that it gives no warning of battery being exhausted (no blinking power light and the status shows 1/3 full) and that the batteries lose their ability to hold a charge. One of the two I purchased now holds less than 15 minutes of power and the other is about 2-3 hours, less than the original battery.
DON'T BUY THIS BATTERY WITHOUT GUARANTEE IT IS LEGIT FOR AMERICAN MARKET (MADE IN CHINA, ENGLISH WRITING)."
EDIT2
The battery fully charged in another 1 hour, 30 minutes. I let the PSP run a game for an hour.
When I went to check on the PSP, I hit home and said quit game, the PSP turned off.
It seems the battery somehow fried or broke and can't even hold a charge anymore. I can start the PSP with the battery and charger, but if I unplug the charger, the PSP shuts off.
I wish things would work like they are supposed to.
My battery says "Made in China" and has Sony stuff all over it, I really think it is a 1st party Sony product.
I SUGGEST EVERYONE STAYS AWAY FROM THESE BATTERIES AND USES THE REGULAR ONES!
I just hope to God this battery didn't damage my PSP.
EDIT3
Here is a list of batteries that are compatible and also Pandora compatible:

Thanks to everyone for enlightening me!

Well, any battery or memory stick you get from ebay is going to be fake; out of the hundreds that sell "genuine" memory cards, i think three sellers are actually genuine (And no, i'm not even joking).
As for batteries i couldn't say, but it's probably about the same...
PSP, all the way from 1.00 to 5.50 GEN D2 - DS Lite w/ M3DS Real (M3 Sakura v1.34)
PS3 3.01 - iPod Touch 2G 16GB Jailbroken - Xbox 360 60GB - PC, Q6600, 3GB DDR2, GTX260 (216) 896MB

i'll need to test out my 3600 mah battery when it arrives from ebay.right now i have a 1800, which is definitely genuine as it came with my psp(first hand psp :D).so, if i bought a fake battery, can i still convert it into a pandora?if you can't i'm going to send that guy so many curse messages.p.s, got my battery from ebay, but not came yet.
here's the description:
Features:
l Brand New with Retail Package
l Extra Long Battery Long for playing PSP Game
l DC Voltage: 3.6V
l Capacity: 3600mAh
l Battery : Rechargeable Lithium Battery with NO memory effect
Packing content:
1 x High Quality Lithium 3600 mAh Battery for PSP
and some other random stuff.so, is lithium possibly fake?the price in total is 5.98 pounds.too cheap to be real?if it is fake, then i'll post saying so, and someone pm me a site that's trusted.thanks much.

It's fake.
I don't think Sony actually do 3600MHz batteries but i may be wrong...
Doesn't matter, i got a cheapo battery and use it as my regular, whereas my Sony battery is my Pandora.

lithium is in all psp batteries. those no name brand batteries might not be able to be flashed to pandora. physical modification might make it work.
my 2200mAh stamina batteries have been working fine. last approximately hour and a half longer than the regular 1800mAh. all the things i buy are from a store; online is a very last resort.
also, sony doesn't make 3600mAh batteries. only 1200, 1800 and 2200mAh. anything higher is third party or no name.
when is sony going to release the psp slim replacement battery covers? i want my stamina battery in it!
ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure
got a whole lot more to list . . .

Batteries can either be converted or they can't. There's no "middle" ground.
Generally 3rd party batteries don't have the right circuitry as official, therefore not working as Pandoras at all (either sotware or hardware mod).

yes :D.so it lasts 4 hours?i'll need to charge up the battery and leave it on and time it XD lol...but i think, i should do that to see.
no wait, on second thoughts i'll convert my 3600 mah into a pandora because i don't like risks :P
1800mah is actually enough for me.it's just that when going online it absorbs a little bit more in battery.anyways, my official battery lasts for around 4 hours too.

Yea, my official battery lasts about the same as my unofficial (I guess that proves Sony isn't tooo bad :P)

i've researched a bit and i saw something saying that 3600 mah lithium is fake and it won't work as a pandora battery.feeling depressed, i was thinking of doing that 4 hour test.i will try to convert my fake into a pandora.if not working then i'll convert my official only if my fake is around 4 hours long.if my 2nd option does work, but if my fake craps up then i'll try to go to a game shop and ask for a 1800 mah battery =/.just hope my fake will work.
thanks much shokz for helping :P

We bought a stamina battery from Wal*Mart and my friend claims it works, so those are safe to buy.
Don't buy them from Hong Kong or Ebay like I did, they are fake.
Here is a list of batteries that are compatible and also Pandora compatible:
http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=75986
The difference I noticed between the two staminia batteries was mine had Chinese, Korean, or Japanese writing on the back of the case while my friend's battery from Wal*Mart had english writing on the back of the case.
Thanks to everyone for enlightening me!

Sony does make a 3600mAh. I boought one in Canada for like 45$.
By the way, the Canadian dollar is more powerful than the American dollar, now! One Canadian dollar is worth 1.4 American dollars
