can a modded xbox 360 ntsc-j play pal games?

I have bought a modded x-box 360 ntsc-j from china off DHGate. I was told by the seller that any game from any region would work on it. Tried FIFA 08 PAL version and it won't work, it says incorrect region for this disc. I think the xbox 360 has been software modded but not 100% sure. I read somewhere that if i had a certain type of drive (samsung I think) and downloaded XBox media centre I can change the settings to PAL and it should play the game OK. Just wanted to know if this is true?

no it wont.
you are stuck playing ntsc games only, or region free games but pal games wont work, i never have heard of anyway to change region on a game
