Probably not this right forum for this question but -
What's the make and model of the drive that can't read them?
Firmware up to date?

Sorry about that, but the disks are for my wii games.

It's an HP DVD writer, that came with the computer. I don't know how to check firmware.

ok - here's how to check it in XP - post back the make, model and firmware version.
Right click on my computer>properties>hardware tab>device manager. Then click the plus next to cd/dvd drives. Right click on the HP - properties and click on the details tab.
In this pick the drive is a Matshita UJ 840D - firmware 1.02 (firmware version is listed all the way to the right)

Here's the latest firmware - 3.20.
It's an older drive and this last update is from 2004 includes more support for 8x media - so any of the newer stuff like 16x will be hit or miss at burning or recognizing.

Looks also like this drive doesn't support -R media - only +R - not sure why you were able to burn to the -R Verbs unless a previous firmware added that feature (?)

This is one of those older burners with a funky way of updating the firmware.
Is Record Now installed already? If it is then just open the program but it sounds like it isn't.
You can have HP send you the disc but I don't know if it's really worth it - I'm sure they'll charge you. RecordNow is a Roxio software - they might have a trial but I'm not sure if this later version would do the trick.
It may end up being more hassle then it's worth - the latest firmware is from 2004.
