Ok, before my desktop (Windows XP) system decided to pack it in, I had no issues backing up movies with DVDfab, shrink, and nero. Well I have purchased a laptop with Microsoft Vista and this is where I think I am running into problems. Everything seems to backup without any issues, but when I try to playback in my standalong dvd player, the problems occur. Everything starts fine ...previews etc. but will not play the menu. If I try to call up the menu it appears to jump to a chapter well into the movie and I can't go back (appears to loop). I have also tried in another dvd player and my xbox 360 with no luck. Now this isn't movie specific as the other two movies I tried to backup did similiar things. One even went to the credits when the menu button was hit. Now if I play the disc in the laptop, everything works fine...menu appears and plays like a normal dvd.

I have tried shrink and nero (latest version), DVDfab, shrink and nero...all with the same results. I even clicked on the Windows XP compatibility service pack 2 mode with the same results.

Any suggestions??

Hi, my friends in the know say that vista has a lot of DRM issues and backing up programs may not be compatible with it (vista). At jefflevy.com he has free fix it lessons for vista (especially vista lesson #20 ). If after visiting his web site and no answer is found, then maybe you may need 2 go back to Xp.
