my friend's xbox360 recently craped the brick and we need to fix it. he's way past send back warranty. i was wondering how hard it would be to remove his burnt out dvd-drive and replace it with another one say from ebay or from another 360? and i understand that it has to be the same kind of drive (ex. hitachi) as whats in his 360 now. is this possible and how hard will it be to swap?

How is the drive bad? You didn't mention. If it's not reading the easiest and cheapest thing to do is replace the laser, not the whole drive.
