Go into recovery menu and change kernel over (1.50 / 3.52)
Make sure UMD is in PSP.
Make sure option in recovery mode = UMD required or if planning on going to 3.71 M33-2 use the Sony NO UMD option.

I got the above error message, and I believe its because there's no UMD in the drive.
So I got one (the office series 1) and it still doesnt work - I get the same error message?
I use the PSP demo disc in mine and it works fine..does it have to be this exact disc, cos I thought any UMD worked ok?

same thing happened to me while on 1.50 when i tried the 1.00 downdater. i tried everythign possible but it just didnt work, what firmware are you running?
