HELP!!COPYING PROTECTED DVD/FIRST TIMER

I have no experience copying dvd's, first timer.
I bought an RCA DVD+R/+RW recorder that is connected to my tv and a DVD player and want to know if possible to make a personal copy of a protected dvd in it. When I tried a message indicate DVD is protected and not possible. can bypass this? How?

Don't think its possible with your RCA, I think your recorder is for making recordings of TV shows or for making your own movies with your camcorder. I did a google search on your unit and looked at the specs and features. I use my PC with a DVD burner, a decrypting program to decode and size the DVD files to fit on the disc and a burning program to put the files on a blank disc. If you were to do that your RCA would most likely be able to play and record them as the encryption would be removed. It might be possible to use your PC to decrypt and shrink a protected DVD and then use your RCA to burn with but I kinda doubt it. If I had your unit though, (and a DVD player in your PC) I would try it. Read some of the posts here and you can get an idea of what people are doing.

Wich decrypting and burning programs are best for a person with little experience in this?
Any kind of dvd burner best if decide to buy a new one for pc?

Frankfmg. If I am reading your post right, your burner is a stand alone unit like a VCR. The only way you can do it with out a computer is to buy a macrovision remover that goes in line from the video out of the player to for example a VCR. Play the dvd and copy it to tape. Then you would have to play the tape back and record it on to a blank dvd. The macrovision remover will let you copy the movie to the VCR tape without the copy protection. Hope this helps but I'm not sure what your machine is. Of course menus won't work.

Yes, lose the caps, I think you are SHOUTing at me. :) I started with a Toshiba 5002, OEM in my VAIO. its a 2X -R, RW burner, couldn't burn the stack of +R media I bought though. (oops) Since then I bought an Optowrite DD0203. Its a 4X and handles -/+ media. (no probs burning at 4X!) Ive also got a Pioneer DVR-A06 waiting to be installed. Bought both on Ebay.
I have had good luck using Shrink 3.0 beta 5 to decrypt (rip) my back-ups and use Nero 6 burning ROM to burn them to the disc. Shrink is free, I bought a retail version of Nero. (The same time I bought the wrong discs)
You will need to read the guides here for the programs you choose to use. Look at the posts here and see what others are using.

Hi Jerry,
I'm wondering if you would loose quality recording to a VCR then back to a disc. I'm just curious. It might be the way to go if you don't have a PC with a DVD burner. I have more fun burning than actually watching the movie though. lol

Hi Fasfrank, I use to copy dvds to tape a few years ago and was surprised at the picture quality on the tape copy. I'm sure there will be some loss going back to the dvd, but if thats the only equipment you have there isn't much choice. I'm sure the dvd would be good enough to watch under normal conditions. I built my macro scrubber probably 8 years ago to remove tape copy guard. It works great on dvd output too. Now you can buy them on line about $35-$40 dollars. Jerry

If you are looking to purchase a burner and copy program, 321 Studios has a deal going, buy their DVD XCopy and get a burner for about $25 bucks (If this deal isn't going now, it will be in the next week or so).
Most of us like Shrink DVD, it's free! But you still need that burner thingy and either Clone DVD or Nero as a burner program - both have a 30 day free trial so you can play with them to decide which one you like the best -
Getting a burner for Mr. Puter will pay for itself in time and frustration and produces great backups.

I would rather invest my money on Clone DVD. 321 Studio procucts are beginning to suck. Ihave been using Clone DVD along with AnyDVD since I discovered its simplicity and reliability...IMHO.

I'm in total agreement !
I started out with XCopy and then the eXpress and I've used it once in the last 2 months. I only mentioned it because of the burner deal.
My choice is Shrink DVD and either Nero 5.5 or Clone DVD.

I've been using dvd shrinker with easy cd & dvd creator 6...the audio does not seem to be working with this. i'm analyzing the video now, will this help?

I have Roxio 6 Platinum and Nero 6. I only use Nero. Most members on here have had problems using Roxio to burn with shrink. Free BURNATONCE download is similar to nero just not bundled with all the Nero extra stuff. Nero also as a trial download to try. Jerry
