Hi - I've had a modded slimline ps2 for a long time now (flip-top lid and swapmagic), and I've always pretty much kept it in the same place. The other day I took it round to my sister's place and now whenever I press the reset button to turn it on, the laser carriage moves to the centre and just rattles/vibrates - and the disc doesn't spin.

Do all ps2's react to being transported this badly, or is it just mine??! Has anyone heard about one doing this before, because I can't find any help on the web (or in these forums) relating to this whatsoever.

The flip-top lid always was a little bit dodgy and I had to keep a weight on the left hand side of it when loading & playing games or it wouldn't read any discs at all. When the weight was on it though (I used a spindle of discs), it worked perfectly. I thought that maybe the movement had lifted the lid out of position, but it seems to be sitting in the same way it did before. The magic keys seem to be in the same places they were before... I don't know where to go to get it fixed, as I'm worried about taking a modded ps2 to someone in case I get funny looks or something...! I'd be really grateful if anyone had any thoughts on this one! I only bought it recently and am pretty put out by this happening.

i had that problem when i was putting my fliptop lid on my ps2. i think it was because the magnet to hold the game in place was too far away from the disc holder.
i just kept lossening and tightening screws until it worked. mgiht be somethign got loose.

Thanks for the reply! Which screws were you playing around with? I might try and take it apart soon anyway to see if something's got stuck in there. Thinking about it, I used to have a magic key in there which was holding the disc brake which has been missing for a while. Maybe it fell into the mechanism somehow and hasn't agitated it for some reason until now..?
