I have been using DVD Shrink v3.2.0.15 for awhile now. The problem is when it get to the point of the burn when the original is ejected and asks for a blank. It spins up the blank then ejects it and asks for a disc with a larger size.
I am using Sony +R media. Also this is after I just burned a disc just fine. It doesn't matter what brand either. I have tried 4 different ones to no avail. I haven't updated or changed anything either. The compilation is The Family Guy series.

What does the bar at the top of DVD Shrink read?

The bar is solid green,no red. Compression is automatic and shows 50.1%. Target DVD size is DVD-5 and burning with Nero 6. I have tried Sony, Memorex, and TDK media and still the same error.

As a follow up, I tried it at work with about the same set up and still the same error. Could Shrink be screwed up and it really won't fit?

Size is set at 4463mb. Nothing out of the ordinary has changed on either computer. I use Nero 6 at home and Nero 7 at work. I had just burned the second disc of this set and popped in the 3rd to finish when this started. Rebooting didn't do anything. I uninstalled and reinstalled and still the same thing.

Have you recently changed the version of Nero 6 in use? That can sometimes cause a problem. What does the Nero log read? Also, try resetting your target to an ISO on a hard drive folder and burning manually with ImgBurn. That will tell you if it's Shrink or the burner.

Nope, haven't changed Nero or anything else. I did do some more investigating and tried another DVD. That one burned fine as well. I then used a DL disc to burn this one to and no problems. I'm just baffled as to why it would say it could fit on a regular DVD but really needs a DL. Strange.....

Try using RB if you're wanting to do high compression to a DVD5. I've never seen Shrink do what you mention. I've done some pretty serious compressing before to see where Shrink could go. But, I rarely try to have it compress that much for backups I want to keep. Sometimes transcoding depends on content as well as size. I'd have to have a copy of the DVD you're working with to comment further and I'm not into Family Guy. Maybe someone else has been there.
