My moded slimline ps2(v12) recently stopped reading dvd's both original and back-ups it will still however read cd's both original and back-ups. I'm guessing the laser is dieing so I was wondering where I could get a replacement laser online that would be both cheap and reliable,also I was curious if the recent installation of the mod-chip could have had anything to do with the laser malfunctioning or if the mod chip might affect the laser after I install the new one,thanks in advance.

Yes you're modchip probably had something to do with it but if you replace the laser you should also get a fix like this
