First, I realize that there are many posts concerning video capture cards, etc. I want you to know I did do a search but I couldn't quite find what I was looking for so I post in this forum for the first time.

I am 100% complete novice when it comes to video capture. I have no clue/no experience.

I have a bunch of old family VCR tapes that I want to be able to download to my PC and burn to DVD. I do have Nero 7 Ultra (some of you may be pitying me already)and my system specs are X800 GTO 256 meg card with DDR3 memory, Athlon 64 3200+ cpu, 2 Gigs of RAM, SATA HD, 2 DVD burners, and XP Pro w/SP2.

Bottom line, do I want/need to go with a PC card or are there decent external video capture devices via USB? I know NewEgg carries Hauppauge in both. My budget is limuited to $75.00. Thanks.

For ten bucks more you can get a DVD recorder. But if you insist on torturing yourself, look here http://www.videohelp.com/capturecards. I'd recommend one of the Hauppauge units that encode to MPEG2 myself. I have the PVR USB2.

Hi, I'm like the originator of this thread. I am looking to convert my analogue camcorder tapes to my PC so that I can edit them and create DVDs. I don't want to spend to much (only about $100) but want at least the quality of the analogue picture. I have Vista Home Premium and looking for a video capture that connects via USB to my PC.

I've been spending a lot of time looking at products and forums on the web. (The www.videohelp site was very useful). What I have been reading is that there are ooptions such as video capture devices, analogue TV devices with video input, using a digital camcorder with analogue inputs or a DVD recorder with analogue inputs. What is everyoones experience?

From my research I concluded the ADS Tech DVD Xpress DX2 sounds like a great product except people have been having mixed experience with Vista. Can people let me know if the Vista problem is solved.
