Bought a 25 pack spindle of Aterra DVD-R 4x for 39.99 CAD from Compucentre. Checked the media code and it was "TYG01" making them Taiyo Yuden. Burnt them at 4x on a Pioneer A106 with no problems and they play great in my XBOX. Hope this helps people out.

Those discs are supposed to be very good and are recommended by Plextor for their drives. I seen the flyer in the paper today. thanks for the heads up on the manufacturer.

I've heard the complete opposite, that they only work with pioneer and sony, and even that they have trouble storing data over 3 gigs, so don't think about backing up movies, hope this isn't true

currently running with an lg gsa-4040B (writer)
and pioneer dv-363 (player)

I've used quite a few of them already and had no problem backing up any movies. If you contact Plextor they will tell you that these discs are recommended for their drives. The only trouble I've had with them is that there are a few marks on the outer edges of some of the discs, possibly caused through shipping. It may be possible that there are some lower grade discs that have made it over here that may be causing some problems.I did hear that this has happened in Europe but not with the Taiyo Yudens.

Yes, I know what you mean,

I find many dvds with dirt and streaks on them!
Are they still usable??
I mean, the dirt i can blow off or swipe off, but the streaks seem serious, are they??? And i Have one with a chip on the outer end. They may be good quality, but they are horribly cared for, i don't know if its gonna cause problems!

Anyone have experience with this???

I've have had some of these discs with some marks and what appears to be smudges on them. Buy a bottle of disc cleaner and spray some on the disc wiping with a towlett or something made for disc cleaning from the inside of the disc to the outside. Don't wipe in a circular motion. I've used the small disposable wipes, like Kimwipes which are used for delicate surfaces such as eyeglasses and they work fine.I had some clean up fine and others which seemed like a sratch and I thought that there's no way that these would burn ok but they were fine. They have played fine on my DVD player which is a Toshiba about a year and a half old. Sometimes if you are in doubt you can try burning at a slower speed but with this Plextor I find leaving it at it,s maximum and let it determine what speed it will burn at, works fine. Of course idealy, these discs should'nt have a mark on them.
The disc with the chip out of the side of it!!!- use it for a coaster. If it breaks while running at the speeds it can in the machine, watch out, it could shatter and cause major problems. NOT GOOD.
