Ok, I have a PSP 3.52 M33-1 and I'm planning to upgrade it to 3.71 M33-2 eventually once I get myself an extra memory stick and make my own Pandora box.
Last month I've encounter a problem very similar to:
I was playing Narutimett Portable(JPN) on my 3.52 M33-1 until I decided to go back to the XMB through the HOME button. Right after I've saved my game and selected YES (to go back to close the application/game and to go back to the XMB), the screen froze temporary for a few minutes and the entire machine automatically shutdowns. Being a bit confused and worried that my PSP might have been bricked I've tried to turn it on again, and it worked. Everything seems to be fine, even now.
After the incident the mystery of the auto-shutdown still worries me, and worse, after reading the post by babba2 (see link)I am kind of concern that I will eventually brick my PSP. My questions are:
1) Does anyone, besides me and babba2 have encounter such a problem.
2) What are the precautions I should take to avoid bricking my PSP (other than resulting to, after the brickage, Pandora Box)
3) Is my copy of the M33 firmware a good one? (I just hope I don't have one of those PS3news bricking ones, assuming that those fakes firmwares do not brick the PSP right away and its like a time bomb ready to explode o_O)
4) I'm pretty new to this PSP business. Does anyone here have any reliable links you could share (no ps3news like links please >_<). I know QJ is good, but for the love of god it's slow to load sometimes
5) I wonder if I should notify DA or M33 about the problem? IF babba2's statement is reliable, and assuming the problem is the cfw, it would mean that this weird bug is probably on the 3.71 m33 as well. It could just has been a hardware problem from Sony. I don't know, I just hope someone would give me some sort of answer o_o
I'm no professional on the matter, but from personal experience if the iso is ripped (gutted out the padding space and etc. to save space) sometimes someone could have ripped one too many things from the iso. Or the iso could be defective in general. I would try a different copy of the game, preferably a full copy of the game and see if the problem persists.
Humm, that's true. That's one thing I haven't considered.
However, I think the game seems to be fine; it is suppose to be a full copy from where I've got it. Ever since the little shutdown incident, I've kept playing the game and up till now, I haven't encountered the shutdown problem ever again. Maybe it is a one time thing?
your firmware may be the problem. you need to upgrade to 3.52 m33-4. you have to upgrade to it if you want to go to 3.71 m33-2
as for the babba2 controversy, only he has encountered that problem. i have 3.71 m33-2 on my psp slim and on my brother's fat psp. both have no problems.
once you upgrade to custom firmware, you accept all risks, INCLUDING bricks. that's why you have a choice before it installs.
Ok, so it is really normal that the PSP sometimes hangs and shutdowns on your way back to the XMB through HOME, right? Good then.
I have one last question before leaving you guys alone.
I'm going to attempt to upgrade my 3.52 M33-1 to a 3.52 M33-4 and then install 3.71 M33-2. If my FAT PSP ever bricks during the process, what would you recommend to unbrick it? DA's Universal Unbricker DC-3 or the Original Pandora Battery & Magic Stick? Is there a difference between both methods (other than one can be used on the Slim PSP)?
I 've got exactly the same problem!!!!My psp sometimes freezes for some seconds and then automatically shut-downs!!Both in games and Browser. The thing is that I didn't downgrade my psp yet!!!It has its original 3.60 firmware!!!!!!!!!
I wanted to make sure that it has no problems!I did well!!!I sent it to the official service center and they sent me a new one!I hoped that the new psp wouldn't have any problems...but the same story all over again!!!!Outrageous!!!!Did thet do anything at all????
I checked the serial numbers ,they were slightly different...maybe there is a faulty batch out there.
Here are the S/N of the 2 PSPs : 03-27401022
P-27401922-9
So,if I were you ,I 'd try to install an original firmware to psp so I could sent it back to sony!!!Its not the custom firmware's fault!
