I recently purchased the LITE-ON LDW-411S burner to back-up my collection of movies. But all the Movies which I have copied either freeze, or I get a disk error about 2/3 of the way through.

I checked with LITE-ON and it appears that they are known issues with the 411s and ?r media. So I followed their advice and upgraded the firmware, which did improve things slightly, but still no success. My DVD?s play great for the first 2/3 then I get a bad disk error. Trying various ?r media and different burning speeds makes no difference.

So I?m down to two options, try and find some +r media which works with the 411s, or bite the bullet and spend another £100.00 to buy the PIONEER DVD-R/-RW/+R/+RW IDE " DVR-106 " which I have heard good things about.

So this is my last chance to save my money! Can anyone tell me any ?r /+r media which works with the Lite-on?

Cheers TLO, Spent all last evening checking out CDfreaks. People there had lots to say on the 411s and none of it was good.

It seems the 411s only burns +r media reliably. So I tried Verbatim +r media, and no problems. So it seems I've bought a +r burner.

I bought the Pioneer 106D for £94.00. Burns everything. This is an excellent drive. So LITE-ON RIP...

I have the same burner and had a 30% success rate with Memorex DVD+r and 100% success rate with Philips DVD+RW. Too many factors to lay the blame. It just might be the brand too.

I own a Pioneer 105 DVD -R/RW drive.
I read a lot about the Liteon LDW 411s problems can be mostly solved with their latest FS0F firmware release.

My brother just bought this drive at Bestbuy's blowout sale on Black Friday.

Here's some URLS on what users have tested cheap and name brand media to work on this drive.

CDfreaks review on your Liteon LDW 411s on what -R and +R media works http://www.cdfreaks.com/article/127

A random user who tested media on Liteon LDW 411s (actually a LDW 401s with hacked firmware to be a 411s) http://liteon401s.front.ru/media.htm

Hope this helps.

The best disks which I have found for the 411s are ARITA 2.4x DVD+R. They cost about 90p (UK)and work on most standalone players including my PS2. I still haven't found any -r media which work!

I have the 411s and have had success burning +R and -R media both. Although I am getting a read error with the movie X2. I use Sony +R and Sony -R with success. Also used Memorex +R with success.

I had the same problem with Nero 6. I downgraded to Nero 5.5.10.54 This solved the problem.

However, I now use Anydvd and CloneDVD to backup my home movies with a 100% success rate.

I had similar problem with my 411s when I purchased it. Burns would error out about 2/3 way through. I already had latest firmware, dma enabled, set as master, etc. What finally fixed it?? I put on an ultra DMA ide cable on the drive instead of standard 40 wire cable. Drive now works like a champ. Have not lost on DVD media using TDK 2x Dvd-r, TDK 4X dvd+r, memorex DVD-r 4x, Ritek DVD-r 4x. Also reading is averaging 10-12x, great for ripping.

Upgraded to the latest firmware and still having problems burning with Memorex DVD+R as well as their DVD-R media.

Tried Fujifilm DVD-R media and no coasters!
Works great. the Fujifilm only burns at 2x speed however. I think the LDW-411s probably has a higher rate of error at the higher burning speed. Is there a way to lower the burning speed when using DVDxPress?
Thanks!

To choose or change the write speed of your DVD unit My Computer\C:\Your drive right click on the unit listed, go down to properties
And some place in there on one of those tabs you will find the setting that you are looking for. :)
