I'm playing with visual effects software, and what I would like to do is - using DVD Shrink - copy a scene (or short sequence) from a DVD onto my computer's hard drive . . . and then, lift out a specific shot. I'm going to create a digital matte painting (using After Effects) and composite it into this shot. This is just for myself, as I study doing things with the software.
- Using DVD Shrink, is it possible to select a specific 2-4 minute sequence, and download only this onto a PC hard drive? And could I specify a specific file format using DVD Shrink?
- If DVD Shrink can copy a short sequence onto my drive, what would be the Best file format to convert it to - in order to work with it digitally in a effects program? .vob? .AVI? Or another? And the important thing would be that the imagery of the shot copied from the DVD be of the highest visual and digital quality - I'd like a good sharp image to work with.
Thank you all for sharing your suggestions with me. I greatly appreciate your help.
I would load one of the VOB files into VirtualDubMod.
Select the sequence then click 'Video' - Full processing - Compression -
Uncompressed RGB.
Click 'File' - 'Save as AVI'.
or 'Save Image Sequence' [it will be saved as stills in .bmp .jpg or tga format]
Using attar's method is going to leave you with a clip that's already converted to .avi so I'd use that. You can cut out a clip with with Shrink though...
Open your movie in Shrink.
Select reauthor.
Drag the title that contains the video you want over to the left.
Click the opposing blue arrows to open Shrink's "Select start/end frames" feature.
Use the buttons and sliders to isolate the scene you want and select OK.
Back this up to a folder target.
Editing usually requires .avi, so run the clip through a converter.
Right, A clip is small enough so no compression is used.
Of course if you have a clip larger than 4464 mb or whatever you have Shrink set to limit the size to, then compression would be applied. That would be a damn big clip though, lol.
