Most of the chips are doing the same thing, modifying the drive read routine. However, the most popular (good installed user base) is the WiiKey. Plus, the WiiKey has softawre that will allow you to backup your games using the Wii drive, so you don't have to pay a lot of money to buy one of the 4 LG drives that can read/backup a game. Assuming you have a 1 or 2 gig SD card, you can get a Gecko SD adaptor (or wire an internal Gecko mod for free if you like to solder). Then use your SD card with the Wii backup software (free, you download from there site).

Right now, the LG DVD drives are going for $40-$50 bucks (with shipping) as opposed to maybe $18 for a Gecko SD card adapter. That basically pays for the WiiKey chip.

So, because of the large installed user base plus the game backup ability, I'd consider the WiiKey to be a good choice. Other than that, they are mostly the same.
