Im new to xbox , why cant you mod an elite ? what did they do different from the 360 ? thanks

They can be modded. Most Elites come with the Hitachi 0079 drive which needs you to solder a passkey to enable modeB (flashing mode). Since hardly any of us are good with soldering that precisely, most people don't try.

well, you need to know what drive it has. If it is a BenQ then currently there is no firmware for it. But that is coming in the near future.
