Flashing a new drive to an old system.

Hey guys, let me go over my problem with ya.

I got a system from late last year, Hitachi drive, flashed to play backups, etc. All good, til the damn magnet fell out. Opened it up, epoxied the magnet back into place, but now every time I try to play I get this terrible grinding noise from the system, and my games struggle to load. I figured I might as well scrap the current drive and get a new one off ebay to flash.

My friend does all the firmware flashing, but I read that you need to flash the new drive to match your specific motherboard, which he or I have no idea how to do. If anyone could point me in the right direction of a tutorial on how to do this, or just tell me how it's done.. I'd appreciate it a sh*tload. Thanks in advance.

all you gotta do is dump the FW off your current drive, and flash the new drive with your old drives FW.

oh yea.. theres something about having to 'spoof' the drive, but im not sure if you spoof it to the new drive, or your old one. but the search bar would be a great place to start though.
