My sister is having a problem with her laptop. She has a wireless connection. The computer says it is connected, and that the connection is strong. But the connection will only work for a few seconds. She went on to check her mail, and a few seconds later it would not show any web pages. And also AIM will not connect.

This started a day or two ago. Today she turned the firewall (Zonealarm) off to see if that was somehow blocking it.

It always says the connection is good, but it just won't work.

I had this same problem on my Dell laptop. It only occured in wifi hotspots in which I did not have the right encryption key.
