Using Nero thru Shrink, I burned content onto a DVD-R. The DVD will then play fine on the computer, but will not on any dvd stand alone player. Did I miss a step in the burn?

I'm having almost the same problem... using Sonic thru shrink, following all instructions, and the DVD WILL work on a newer player, but not on my older model... any ideas why this is???

Alot of people use DVD+R booktyped to DVD-ROM for added compatability, also what brand discs are you guys using?

The Sony discs may not be compatable with your standalone player. I always suggest Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden as they seem to yeild the highest percentage. As I said earlier, DVD+R booktyped, if your burner supports this feature.

I'm using FUJI DVD-R, I'll try the DVD+R. Not sure what you mean by booktyped to DVD ROM?

Read all about booktyping here:

http://www.booktypefaq.com/

Not all burners support booktyping/bitsetting but there are plenty that do and you may have one of those capable drives.

Hate to say it, but if that doesn't work, you may want to get one of the new multi format players like the one from Philips. I bought one for less than $75 and it plays just about anything round and shiny (including CDs and RW format). They may be cheaper now. I picked mine up last year.
