NEC ND-1300A 2X-4X problem??plz help

i just bought a new NEC 1300A OEM Dual format DVD-+RW Drive and proceeded to burn a dvd but Nero wont let me burn at more than 2x. I updated the frimware to latest version which is 1.8 and still Nero doesent let me change it to 4X? is anybody having these problems can somebody else help me out. also the drive didint come with drivers so im wondering if there is an updated driver...ive been searching all over the net for a new driver but cant find one not even on NEC's website. someone please help me out. Oh and i am using 4x media its just that Nero grays out the option for 4x only 2x...please help

did u adjust the right speed on the drive itself????it might be set to a lower write speed than 4x....

where did you install your burner - in the computer (IDE connect) or outside (USB connect)?

Try changing its location on your IDE cable, if it is in the slave position, change it to the primary or de udder way 'round.
Second, let's close all programs running in the background so that all computer resources are available to stream info to your burner. It, more likely, is the problem, the burner isn't getting the information fast enough - for sure you can't be using your computer for other purposes while it's writing -
Kind of tricky this, hunting for the elusive 4X speed (but then again, it is nice to see it burn in a fraction of the time)

Perhaps you don't have any real 4X media? Get one of the 'dvd disc data checking' utilities to find out. Sorry, I don't know the util names or d/l sources - try a search here.

I just installed my new Pioneer A-06 and proceeded to burn away at 4X with TDK DVD+R media. Did you use +R or -R 4X media?

Ya makin' me feel more stupid than my normal stupid self -
I be guess'n all my dumb suggestions be for naught if'in he be use'n 2.4X media -

Pete,
You're a mighty busy feller around these parts. I'm sure, given ample time, you'd have come up with the same comclusion. What I can't figger out is why anyone would want to push a burn up to 4X. There isn't that much time saved and a 2.4x burn is more likely to be successful. To each his own. I throttle my 4x discs down to 2.4x when burning with Nero 6. My NEC ND-1100A is capable of 4x but I don't trust blank media that much. A few 4x bad burns will persuade most anyone. The thought of a 8x burn frightens me.

djscott19 started this thread and in that vein I tried to amnswer his question - for DVD's with requiring either some or a lot of compresion I retard the burn myself - Aaaaauh, truth be told, 98% of my burning I do is in the 2.4X neighborhood and just using 1 burner at a time - like you said, less problems. Some of the real small movies (3.6GB range) I may do at 4x, just because I can.
He'll find out for himself about the speed - I wanted to burn at 4X when I got my second unit, just top see what it was like, I don't blame him even a little bit (LOL)
