Look guys, I'm the newest of noobs when oit come to PS2 and gaming all together, but I'd love to learn how to burn games like i do I do dvd's! The thing is, I don't have a friggin clue where to start!
Here's what I know already:
1: I have an older PS2 (5 YEARS ATLEAST)
2. I know I need a Mod Chip (problem is I don't know what a MOD Chip is!)
I've read some guides on here but I'm lost! If there's a guide for idiot's then I'll read it! All I want to know is where do I start, what do I need and what is the easiest & most simplified manner in doing so?
If you have a fat PS2 (it should say SCPH-30001 or something like that in the back), you're in luck, 'cause this PS2 is the best to play backups. Keep it.
Backup methods:
-HDLoader: loads disc images on your hard drive
--You will need to buy a hard drive (any, it should fit into the extension bay in the back), a network adapter for PS2 (extremely rare item), and HDLoader or HDExtreme.
--Connect the hard drive into your computer first, useWinhiip to install disc images onto the hard drive, disconnect, connect to PS2, load HDLoader or HDExtreme.
-SwapMagic
--Basically swapping discs.
--You need a flip-top cover or Slide card, SwapMagic CD and DVD, and a whole lot of DVD-R's :)
--Load up SwapMagic (there are two edition: CD and DVD. DVD is for loading DVD discs, CD is for loading CDs). When loaded, swap the disc using a flip-top or a slide card with your own disc. Then press on Load Program.
-Breaker Pro
--Same as SwapMagic, but for PS1 games.
-Modchip
--This is probably less annoying method. Modchips are needed to be soldered into your PS2. Then, just load up your backup DVD and there won't be any errors like "not a PS2 disc".
You don't need a modchip for any of those methods except the last one.
Burning CDs and DVDs:
For HDLoader you make an image of the disc and install it onto your PS2 hard drive.
For the rest you copy the original CD or DVD and make sure that the burning speed is 4x. If the disc size is more than 4gb, you may need to make an image of the disc, then compress it. This will make it more faster to read with SwapMagic.
Hi, those methods are quite complex for a new user. You should check out swap magic, it's really easy to do (5mins modifying your ps2 and 1 disc swap everytime you load a backed up game). As Gerinych said you need DVD-R's any good quality ones too! poor ones results in a lot of coasters and piss poor loading times.
Their website is: swapmagic3.com, this also gives reputable sellers where you are.
Instructions are done by IcePeten very well: forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/340944
A video showing the swap is: youtube.com/watch?v=bt_9kkStaFY
I think this is certainly the best way for a beginner to get into the backup world. A bit of searching will get you better prices, you should be able to pick up Swap Magic coder3.8 and a slide tool for around 20 pounds or what ever the equivelant of that is where you are.
As you say you are a noob but this topic has been covered many times and the forum does have a search tool.
