since we can't link you due to forum rules or really help you find the actual sites, here is what i can say.
Newsgroups: You pay a fee to join for a period of time. But the speeds are fast. Although at first it can be a slightly complicated process
Warez: Like newsgroups you pay to play. Usually places like Rapishare charge about $43 USD for a 6 month period making it well worth your money. You can learn to use them in about an hour and once you do they are both simple and fast.
Torrents: free to use but that is because they are all slower then the two above. You have two catagories. Public and private.
Public: open to everyone, speeds will not be great, releases of the games can come from anyone (reliable or not), and they usually have little to no information on the file other than the name and which system it is for.
Private: faster, more reliable, and also free. The catch is 95% of them you have to be invited to or by some wild stroke of luck sign up on a day when they are actually accepting new members. You also have to seed files which helps te whole community. Meaning that when you get a 5GB file or whatever, that you have to leave the client you used open after the DL is done so that others may get parts of the file from you until you have given back 5GB. Thise is called a seeding ration and most sites will ban you if you do not keep it at about .75%, when you just take something and go it is called "snatching" or "hit and run" and all private sites are highly against it. Think of it this way, without people seeding things on a torrent site you would have nowhere to get the file in the first place.
IRC: never really used it much because i found it complicated and not as fast as warez or newsgroups.
