What DVD-R brands are best suited for PS2 backups? I have a version 7 NTSC PlayStation2 and have tried Memorex DVD-R media, but to no avail.
I live in Toronto, Canada, so if any of you live nearby and can offer a bit of advice on where to shop for the best quality around (with a reasonable price tag), then much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
(PS: Would DVD+R offer better quality in general)

Hi,
I use the super cheap Compusa brand DVD-R for my PS2 backups. I have not had a bad one yet. I would recommend going to their website and order some. If they work then order alot at once to save shipping charges. I paid $.80 each for the last 2 packs I bought.
BTW it could also have alot to do with how you are backing them up, and or booting them.
Hope this helps

I use the Sky 2x DVD-R and the Princo 1x DVD-R and I like the Sky silver top with no writing on it and the purple bottom. I have a new PS2 with a Magic 3.1 and I have over 50 backups and all of them play fine with the Sky DVD-R.

Get Ritek Disc for PS2 games, Ritek are a very dark purple and this is better for coping PS2 games. Princo Disc are a light purple will work but better of with the Ritek Discs. I leave in the Uk and get my dics from Computer fairs so might be best if you do a search on Google for ones for you

Elsadek i live in Toronto to (North York) i have a verbatim +/- producer 44 that i bought and got installed from Best Buy. I backup movies and ps2 games, i have dvd x copy platinum and xpress, I have tried some unbranded dvd- and princo dvd- disks and they dont work. my burner and dvd x copy dont recognize them, but when i use memorex or sony, mexell it works perfectly. im not 100% sure that the princo (no name brands) work or not because i have only tried them with dvd x copy, they might work with dvd decryptor for ps2 games but i havent tried that combo yet.

Any PS2 from version 4 onwards should play the +R discs, however, compatiblity is assured with DVD-R. In terms of a disc to buy, i personally recommend any grade A Ritek (legitimate) disc such as Clone Disc, Traxdata, RiDATA and Arita. I've backed-up and tested over 1,000 discs and found these to be best.
