The problem:
I'm using XP Pro to back up a large (250MB) Client database at a dental surgery. Wrongly believing that I could use CD RW's like a Floppy Disk, I installed InCD and relied on XP's right-click and copy - send to InCD Drive D: etc this has worked twice but at the last attempt it gives the BSOD at some point and locks the CD drive until I power off and start again. The company that supply my Practice Software have kindly supplied a batch file that they use on many clients systems, this copies but finishes with the BSOD. As a last attempt, I tried the XP right-click procedure again (I know, I'm a fool!)and it began writing the main folder to be backed up, but unlike the previously successful 4 minute back up, I waited 23 minutes before accepting that it was not backing up. Can anyone PLEASE advise me why CD Writing is SO FRAGILE and TEMPRAMENTAL? I admit to falling for the sales pitch of the manufacturers but I am running a business and can't keep spending money on 'Try-it-and-see' backup facilities.
(What would the Bank of England Use to back up their Data? let me guess...their system costs thousands? I think I am starting to get the picture.............
