Actionscript newbie, need help with transition codes

I'm trying to do a presentation in flash 8 which is coming along pretty good. I'm trying to add slide transitions that are different depending on which button you push (push next flys out left, push back flys out right). Can someone give me a skeleton script on how to do this, if it can be done?
