Hi, I've got a question: If you were to play a pal wii game downloaded from a torrent site on a pal modded wii, is there any chance at all that this could brick your wii? Is there any chance that the pal games on the torrent sites could actually be ntsc games that have somehow been converted to pal and therefore still contain the ntsc update, which could potentially brick my wii? Don't even know if it's possible to convert regions this way, but I thought i'd ask in case anyone knew.

Also would turning the region free off in my wii key settings 100% prevent my wii from getting bricked?

I'd very appreciate your advice. Thanks.

If the game that you obtained is indeed a PAL Wii game then there's very little chance that it will brick your Wii as PAL Updates are OK for PAL machines. However, there are chances that games are incorrectly labelled. If it turns out to be an NTSC game with a later update than the firmware on your Wii, then bricking will occur.

Refer to this thread for more information on Brick prevention and also be aware of an application called WiiBrickBlocker. Not only can it check the region of your iso before you burn, but it removes any updates that the game might have, hence blocking the wii from bricking.

Rule of thumb is to update your Wii though standard means such as via wireless connection though settings.
