It's been ages since I even used DVD Shrink and I'm trying to burn some DVD now. I have Nero micro 7.10.1.2 installed but DVD Shrink doesn't seem to see it. I uninstalled both DVD Shrink and Nero 7 and then reinstalled Nero first, followed by DVD Shrink. It still fails to burn the DVD after backing it up. I decided to try backing it up as an ISO so that I could launch Nero manually, however it creates four large files on my HDD rather than an ISO file.
Why is DVD Shrink not seeing Nero? Do the micro or lite versions not work with DVD Shrink? Unfortunately, I threw out my genuine Nero 7 CD as I figured I wouldn't need it after discovering Nero 7 micro.
Hopefully I'm using DVD Shrink correctly. I just select all sections in the left pane and then deselect the additional languages in the right hand pane that I don't need, and then click Backup.
Thanks.

Is the path to the burning rom the same in your Nero Micro as in a full version of Nero? If not the problem is with the path. Shrink looks for the burning rom at a set location. You can still save your Shrink output to the hard drive and burn manually.

Ahhh, that might explain it. What is the correct path for Nero 7?
If burning manually, do you simply copy the various folders created by DVD Shrink to the DVD as they are on the hard disc?

Also, how well does Nero 8 work with DVD Shrink? Is Nero 7 more refined?

C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core\nero.exe The nero.exe in the path is the burning rom. Put that path in the Windows explorer and the burning rom opens with Nero 7 installed. Back up to C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core and you open the Core folder with the Nero files.
The Nero 8 burning rom doesn't work as a supported burner with Shrink. You can burn manually with Express.
In answer to your Shrink question. You have different options to output to the HD. You can go with an ISO image or with Files in a Video_TS folder. You use your burner ware to browse to the Video_TS folder or the ISO and burn. There's no individually selecting different bundles of files. There's guides for DVD Shrink all over including those from Help on the Shrink toolbar.

I reinstalled Nero to C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core\nero.exe and DVD Shrink still says in the Backup DVD dialogue box "To enable burning, please install Nero". I rebooted but this didn't help. It would be much easier if DVD Shrink made use of Nero like it used to but I can't figure out what's changed. I'm using Nero micro 7.10.1.2.

I just downloaded and installed the 173MB Nero file from File Hippo and it works fine with DVD Shrink. Perhaps there's something about Nero Micro that prevents it from working with DVD Shrink, even when the path is correct.

C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core
Core is the folder holding the burning rom files, including the nero.exe for the burning rom. I looked in the Micro and the comparable folder is Nero Burning ROM. So you would need to rename the folder Nero Burning Rom to Core for Shrink to look for the nero.exe in the right place. Path would be C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\<Nero Burning ROM renamed Core> I wouldn't recommend anyone use the new Micro 8.1.1.0, the burning rom, at least in the full version of Nero 8 is causing some problems with Shrink. Don't know if that will work, but at least the path would be right.

The version of Nero micro that I installed already had the Core directory, so there was nothing to rename, unfortunately. I may have a 173MB file to hang on to now and the installation took forever, but I deselected everything but the burning program, so it's not totally bloated. *laughs*

With 500GB + capacity, little programs like Nero mean almost nothing as far as space goes.
