It it make sense to play a HDDVD with a normal TV only for the special features?

Since the HDDVD player drop down to just $100, I am thinking of have one.
But I know if I play it on a normal TV is no different in pictures, so is it make sense to have the HDDVD only for the special features?
I like to watch special features, is it really different with normal DVD?
My parents won't buy a HDTV and I don't have that money.
I can rent the HDDVD from netflix.
So can you guy tell me who is it?
